Calculate the pH of a 1.2 multiplied by 10-7 M solution of NaOH in water.

This is an easy one NaOH dissolves completely in water

NaOH ---> Na+ + OH-

so 1.2x10^-7 M is the concentration of hydroxile ions. Now you can calculate the pOH

pOH = -log[OH] = -log[1.2x10^-7M] = 6.92

so the pH u r looking for corresponds to 14-pOH

pH = 14 - 6.92 = 7.08 slightly basic =P
