Wellness of Society

We are definitely committed to open source.

GROU.PS is open source; it is available under the liberal Affero Public License. You can download it from our Files section.

We need your help though; the full source code is open on http://code.google.com/p/groudotps/ - current downloadable version is a little buggy and does not have all the features in the subversion repository. Please let us know if you can merge and get them to work. We'll share your contributions from here; unfortunately our limited team is currently too busy developing the live version here on GROU.PS

SOME HISTORY

Some of the projects we've made significant contributions in are: KDE, Mandriva, RPM, Fedora, Apache James, GForge and so on... Also, we are the founders of projects like SimpleKDE (a lightweight version of popular *NIX desktop environment, KDE), Apache Turkiye (local leadership of Apache Software Foundation efforts), Turkix (a Windows-friendly Linux distro for Turkic nations), TurkixFS (a filesystem with Windows file hierarchy), RPMX (a fork of RPM suitable for TurkixFS), Open Configuration Panel (easy and extensible server configuration panel for *NIX systems), metc (a searchable, i18n ready, XML'ized version of /etc directory with abstraction libraries) etc...

You may now ask; where is the open source version of Grou.ps then? You are right, but don't worry. We are working on it! 'Grou.ps open source version' will be released very soon!

For the time being, we open source some parts of our stacks. The libraries we use are:

  • PHP Web 2.0 API - to make your web 2.0 site, you can use these easily to add web 2.0 elements (like tag clouds) .
  • PHPRiya - PHP abstraction of Riya face recognition APIs
  • OPML Writer - generate OPML files easily with an object-oriented approach
  • OpenHuman - source codes and database dump of our free time project, OpenHuman
  • Undisposable.org Clients - client source codes of our free time project, Undisposable.org

and there are more to come...

Nevertheless to say, Grou.ps could not exist without open source.

Our thanks to Apache, PHP, Linux, eAccelerator, Zend, Red Hat and all the open source developers!
