Injury to Apples

This is a page to post photos of damaged apple fruit and request input as to what caused the problem. The community can then edit a "diagnosis" by every such photo to identify such conditions or insect scars for others.

I ( see below about "YOU") have posted a photo of a "nobbly" apple, in the photo section, under diseases. This particular apple was from last year, but I have further specimens that look the same this year. Has anybody any idea what has caused these warty outgrowths?

Here on a wiki page "YOU" are no longer identified nor is there currently a link to your photo... so this is all to be improved upon, eh?

I have no clue. Plum curculio inury sometimes results in bumps, but still has the crescent-shaped mark, which this does not seem to have. I see you are located in Nova Scotia--have you spoken to Extension people there?

A sad story. The provincial government shut down the Kentville Research Station (where the extension service was located, as well as the source of all the various varieties of apple beginning with "nova" (eg. NovaMac, NovaSpy, etc.) (They are all scab-resistant, but otherwise rather pedestrian, in my opinion)). In essence, we no longer have an extension service. (There is a private company formed by some of the personnel from the Research Station, but they basically serve the larger commercial growers, and not amateurs like me.)

Hmmm... is this a wiki page to write up as a community? I think so but eventually it needs to show a photo and state a synopsis of what is happening. Here we begin with a query, and as answers flow in then it should reflect a concensus. That suggests a more far-reaching title. So I'll do that: What once was "What is causing this?" now becomes "Injury to Apples". And of course anyone can change this back if the site editor is out of line in envisioning more of a visual guide to query situations.
