Britegold
Britegold is a Canadian introduction of 1980, a cross of Sandel x Ottawa 522. This is a scab-free apple that contains the Vf gene of resistance. It was introduced as a hardy and scab resistant substitute for Golden Delicious. This is a sweet apple that contains very little acidity, golden yellow with a red blush, medium size. Ripens mid September.

GROWER COMMENTS:

Britegold is a strange apple - when introduced, it was supposed to compete with the Golden, but really, it has almost nothing in common with the Golden. It is a really one of the most beautiful apple, but not very interesting for fresh eating because it lacks acidity - it tastes a bit bland. I would not recommend it for cooking for the same reason. However, I have started using it for cider and I find it very useful to blend with the numerous high acidity varieties that we have. Its sugar content is reasonable (6 year avereage S.G. around 1.052) for a low acid apple. This is a good grower, vigorous, regular, and productive.
