Lobo
From Agruculture Canada, Ottawa Experimental Farm, introduced 1930, McIntosh seedling (most probably McIntosh x Alexander).
Very popular in Quebec as a mid-season commercial variety - an old-time favorite. Ripens mid-September, keeps about 3 months. Scab sensitive.
Picture of Lobo from Claude's orchard. Picture taken Sept 19, 2004, larger apple was 76 mm across (3 in.). Note scab lesions, this is an unsprayed orchard, and most Lobo apples have some scab lesions.

GROWER COMMENTS:
Claude Jolicoeur, Quebec, Zone 4
Very hardy in my orchard, good grower, medium size tree, very good for fresh eating and for fresh juice, colors very well to a deep red. Not quite enough sugar for cidre but can be used. Very susceptible to scab. For some (unknown) reason, my Lobo are much deeper colored that usual Lobo apples bought at the market. I am not sure if this is a different strain or if it is the terroir. These Lobo were already there when I bought the land in 1982, and part of a larger orchard now abandoned.
