Joyce
From Agriculture Canada in Ottawa, inroduced in 1924, an open pollinated seedling of McIntosh (most probably McIntosh x Livland Raspberry). A fairly large apple, quite irregular in shape, green with red stripes. Good hardiness to zone 4. Generally considered as a cooking apple but also for fresh eating. Ripens mid-september and will keep 2 months at most.
Picture from Claude's orchard, September 9 2009 (day picked), largest size is 74 mm across.

GROWER COMMENTS:
Claude Jolicoeur, Quebec, Zone 4
In my orchard, Joyce does not color as well as published pictures suggest. Size is good and the apples are usually rather blemish free although they are not particularely attractive. It does not get much scab. The flavour is not outstanding, but honest for the ripening season which is usually the first week of September. Hardiness and vigor are excellent.
