Penelope the wanna be
PENELOPE THE
WANNABE
Once upon a time there was a girl named
Penelope. She was a step sister to two other girls that were never nice. She
was always waiting to have a chance to prove that she was better then everyone
said she was. Everyone said she was always a mean person and never wanted to
help anyone and always pushed people away that needed her help. Well…. She is
nothing like that. She is a kind and generous person that helps anyone that she
can. Her step sister’s names are Kaitlyn and Sarah. Sarah was the youngest one
and Kaitlyn was the oldest. Sarah was a little nicer than Kaitlyn but you
really couldn’t tell.
But they never let poor little Penelope do
anything. They would make her do all the chores. When she wanted to go
somewhere with her friends, they would always keep her home and have her do
their chores. They would always keep her locked up in her room when boys came
to the house to visit her. Her step sisters would always keep the boys in the
living room and talk them into liking them instead of Penelope. There were only two guys that would never like
Penelope’s step sisters. Their names were Matt and Jessey. Matt has known
Penelope almost his whole life and Jessey just knows how hard her life is at
home and likes her for the person she is. Penelope likes both of these guys too.
Penelope, her step sisters, and the boys are all seniors in high school and
can’t wait to graduate. But before they graduate there must be a dance and
everyone in the school shall pick a homecoming king and queen. Well, when the
dance came along her step sisters went and bought brand new dresses. The
dresses were beautiful. They made Kaitlyn and Sarah look like they were
princesses. The dresses had lace all over and had puffy sleeves and silk
gloves. Sarah’s was green. Kaitlyn’s dress was pink. She asked if she could go.
They said no. They said she had to stay there and clean their rooms and scrub
the floors. They gave her a list of chores that was a mile long. When
the limo came to pick them up and take them to the dance, they jumped in and
were gone that quick. Penelope sat scrubbing the floor crying. Then all of a sudden, there was a noise at her
window. It was Matt and Jessey! They had come to take her to the dance. She was
telling them about the list of chores and how she could not go to the dance
because of her step sisters. They said they knew about the chores. They would
have her back at her house before midnight. (That is when the danced ended.)
Matt and Jessey finally got her to go. “But I don’t have
anything to wear except these old dirty rags.” replied Penelope. Jessey’s mom and dad had recently bought this
big box of costumes. He had brought her a beautiful dress. It looked even
better then her step sisters’ dresses. She looked at it and gasped. “How
did you get this?” she asked. “My
mom and dad got these costumes. I brought it for you to wear to the dance. So
get out of those rags and change into this”. She ran into the bathroom and got the dress
on. She came out of the bathroom a few minutes later. The boys just stared. Do
you think it is too much?” she asked. “No” they both
said at once. “Here.” Jessey
said “I brought you a mask also so no one can recognize you.” “OK”
she said. The mask was also beautiful. Well, are we
ready?” Matt asked. “Yes” they said.
So they all climbed
into the car and went off for the dance. They got to the dance. The boys helped
Penelope out of the car. The boys walked down the stairs to the dance floor.
Once they got to the bottom of the floor they looked around. Everyone was
staring at something. They turned around and noticed it was Penelope. She
slowly started walking down the stairs. Matt helped her onto the floor. “May I have this dance?” asked Jessey. “Yes you may.”
Penelope said. So they danced. They waited until the song was
over. Then they got some punch out of the punch bowl to drink. Penelope
realized that this was as much fun as she has had since her father died. Then
Penelope’s step sisters stared at her. They
started whispering to each other. “She looks familiar.” They said Penelope realized that a lot of
people were looking at her. She didn’t realize that in that crowd that her two
step sisters Kaitlyn and Sarah were staring at her. Then what happened to
Penelope next would amaze her. The most wanted and cutest boy in 12th grade
asked her to dance. The cutest boys name was Jon.
“Really you want to dance with me?” she
asked. “Yes” he
said. “Okay” she said. She was so excited. They danced and then all
of a sudden she heard the clock chime. “OH NO!” she said. She ran and grabbed Matt
and Jessey. They ran up the stairs. Jon come shouting behind her. “Come
back!” he yelled. “What is your name?” He shouted 2 or 3 times. But
yet, she ran and hoped to get home in time to make sure her step sisters and
step mother wouldn’t realize she had left. Under all of this chaos, she had
dropped her necklace. Her necklace had her initials on it. Her initials were
P.R.O. Her initials stood for Penelope Rose Osmond. Her father had made this
for her 10th birthday. She
has had it ever since. Jon found the necklace on the stairs. He looked at it
and noticed that those letters were engraved into it. Well, she got back to her
house and made it back just in time to find her step mother and her step
sisters just driving down the street. She had time to get out of the dress and
back into her other clothes before they got out of the car and into the house.
Matt and Jessey left just in time also. Her step sisters asked her what she had
been doing this whole time. She told them she had been doing the chores on the
list and scrubbing the floors. They said, “We
thought we saw you at the dance?” “Nope,
I have been here or I wouldn’t have gotten all the chores done if I would have
gone to the dance.” Penelope replied. “Well, we are going to bed and getting our
towels ready for in the morning when we take our showers!” they yelled as they
went up stairs to bed. Penelope slept in the basement as much as she
wanted her bedroom back but her step sisters were sleeping in there now.
The
next morning they woke up, took their showers, and they were off to school.
When they got there, they realized that there were flyers and banners
everywhere. “What is all of this?” complained the step sisters. “This is to help me find my soul
mate that I danced with at the dance and all of a sudden she ran off.” said
Jon. When Penelope heard this news, she was so excited. But she thought that if
Jon found out that it was her, he would drop all of the soul mate talk and say
never mind. So she was scared to tell him who he danced with at the dance. Well,
as you might as well know the step sisters were so excited they ran to try to
tell Jon that it was them. They met him in the lunch room tables. “I am the one” Sarah said. “Oh really” asked Jon. “If you the one then I
have a question to ask you. The girl I was dancing with at the dance with
dropped something, what was it?” he asked them. “Easy” they said. “It was a cell phone.” “No,” he replied. “A bandana?”
“No”
“A wrist
watch?”
“No, How about you girls go on. I need to find
my true love that loves music as much as I do” He exclaimed. He looked at
Penelope “Haven’t seen you around here to much, are you new?” He asked. “No”
she said. Then when she turned around, the boy saw something in her backpack. “Hey”
he yelled at Penelope. “Come back.” She remembered like it was last night.
“Huh” she said. “That mask in your backpack it was the one that the girl I danced
with was wearing,” he told her. She sat down with him and told him the story
about everything that has happened and the reason she had to leave the dance
early.
“Oh my goodness it sounds like
you are worked like a slave.” He said.
“Yep” she said “Ever since my dad
died.” “I am
sorry." said Jon. “It’s
okay” she said. “I thought that you would be disappointed when you found out it
was me who you danced with at the dance” she told him. “No”
he said. “Why would you think that?” he asked. “I am
not a popular girl and I don’t have a whole lot of money.” She replied to him. "That doesn’t matter. What matters is what is in the inside” he said. So they began
dating and they graduated together. And they lived happily ever after. What
happened to her step sisters, well, let’s just say they don’t like the place
they are working to earn daily allowance.
