Diversity for improving livelihoods and aim of the whole exercise Having options to choose from is precious for rural dwellers, and not only! It allows people to express their creativity, to bank on a stronger and more resilient environment, to maintain and safeguard the traditional knowledge that nurtures an important sense of belonging and proves to be an asset for coping with climate change. This is the place to share your stories that will help us to better understand the value of Agricultural biodiversity and how indigenous and rural communities are coping with climate change. It will allow us to broaden the existing knowledge base to assess knowledge gaps so to recommend priority areas of research to engage in. What do we expect? Climate change is happening now and the poorest people of the world are responding with coping strategies. We are looking for case studies, experiences, best practices to learn from and discuss about. See how the Tibetan community in the Alpine zone perceive and adapt to the effects of climate change. This link you will lead you to a paper and a presentation that happen to show us how indigenous peoples are effected by and deal with the problem. Tibetan Alpine Ethnobotany and Climate Change (http://www.agrobiodiversityplatform.org/climate_change/blog/?p=296) While learning from your stories we are keen to hear about your background, interests and expectations regarding this web discussion. And keep in mind that a diverse set of experiences, not necessarily mentioning climate change can still be relevant. For example, techniques used in dryland agriculture can be transferred for conditions induced by climate change. Why should you participate? Some points below, more to come from me and from you! • Learning from each other will bring together people through the creation of partnerships • Giving visibility of your project or ideas to a wider community • Provide the opportunity to discuss and identify key research issues to address • Make sure the importance of agricultural biodiversity is acknowledged and considered by policy makers, rural development workers and the general public. • Provide a knowledge base of cases and experiences that will support the development and submission of project proposals Thank you very much in advance – we look forward : )

Monday 17 to Monday 2 December

Share your knowledge - how indigenous and rural communities are coping with climate change through adaptation measures, increasing resilience of agroecosystems and what are the mitigation options available and or used by rural communities? Which knowledge gaps exist which, if identified, would help people to better adapt to climate change? --- If you have a document to contribute you can upload it at the "Documents" page, at the "Links" page you can contribute a link to valuable web-resources.

To happen next !!!

Tuesday 25 November to Tuesday 2 December
How would you raise awareness on the importance of ABD to cope with climate change and try to get the issue included in international research/ development agendas?

Wednesday 3 to Friday 5 December
We will dedicate these three days to address some issues that arose during the discussions, wrap-up the discussions and circulate some text upon which the participants would agree upon and that we could eventually use as our position paper.
