Common Problems
My Pokémon wants to learn a new move but I don't know how to teach it!
Like in official Pokémon games, if your Pokémon knows less than four moves, when the time comes to learn a new move it will learn it automatically. However, a Pokémon can only know a maximum of four moves, so if it already knows four and the time comes to learn another, at least one move it already knows must be forgotten, or the move can't be learnt.
You should now be able to teach a Pokémon a new move in the game itself. If, while in any battle, a Pokémon tries to learn a new move, complete the battle as normal. When you win, you will see a prompt asking you what move to forget. This will list all four moves the Pokémon already knows, and the fifth new move it will try to learn. Untick the one you don't want to keep and tick the others, then click OK. Note that the changes may not take effect until you start a new battle.
I did the above, but my Pokémon did not learn a new move!
Sometimes the above does not work and your Pokémon fails to learn the move you selected. If that happens, then do this:
1. Make sure you are closed out of the game and go to www.playerdex.com.
2. Log in and click on "My Pokemon"
3. Click on the Pokemon whose moves you want to edit.
4. Check the 4 boxes of the moves you want to learn. Note: If a Pokemon forgets a move that it learned in its last evolution, it can not be relearned due to a bug. Please be careful and do not uncheck moves that you want to keep. Beware, you lose money each time you edit moves. Also beware that you do not tick more than four moves, or else only the four highest in the list will be kept.
Stuck in a tree/wall/etc.
Usually if you are stuck in a tree or wall, first wait a few seconds to see if you are moved automatically. If not, try typing /refresh or /stuck, or just shut down the game and log in again, and you should be fine. If you are stuck permanently, or stuck on an NPC or other obstacle you cannot get free from, you will need a MOD/GML/GM to move you. (If none of the listed is online, either wait or let another player KO your Pokemon team to return you to the Pokemon Center.)
Crashing/Freezing during PvP Battles? (Player Vs. Player)
This normally happens when the server goes down. As of now, battles (all of them; Wild, NPC, PvP) may occasionally freeze up and will force you to relog into the game.
Pokémon did not evolve
Evolutions are bugged at the moment. Trade evolutions require an exchange of only 1 Pokemoney to trigger evolution for Kadabra, Graveler, Machoke & Haunter (trading these Pokemon away is NOT required!) There were also several cases that evolving by Stone makes your character unable to act (freezing in some manner). To prevent this, try using a Stone on a Pokemon while next to water (while you hold a Good Rod in your Inventory). If your character freezes, you can fish and the evolution should trigger. Some Stone Evolvers with multiple evolved forms such as Gloom or Eevee may not evolve to some of their alternate forms. Gloom cannot evolve to Bellossom (by Sun Stone) yet and Eevee can only be evolved using a Thunder Stone. Other Pokemon that requires an Item and Trade to evolve (such as Onix and Scyther) cannot evolve yet. All Pokemon that evolves from Happiness cannot evolve. All evolution bugs are currently being worked on now.
The game freezes when I enter a new area
Relog (shut down the game and log on again). Also, when you go to the entrance of a new area, wait for the loading screen to come up before you move. If you walk into the door to the Poke Mart and nothing happens, don not walk back and try to re-enter. Just wait for it to load.
Why is my screen dark/purple/pink/ect.
There is a daytime/nighttime system in PWO. You can see the clock at the top right of the game screen. (It does not correspond to real world time and it is night twice a day, so that everyone has a chance to experience night.) If your screen is too dark to see, your monitor is probably too dark and you should adjust the brightness. (I believe this wasn't implemented into the latest client - can someone check?)
How do I make the game full screen?
Uncheck Window Mode on the Login Screen and log into your account.
Why can I not go into a house?
Not all buildings are finished yet. Most Pokemon Centers and Marts are open, but many houses, landmarks and other unimportant buildings are not.
I lost to Brock and now I canmot fight him or leave the city. Why?
If you lose to Brock or disconnect during battle it is a 1-2 day (24-48 Hours Real time, 48 Game Time); wait before you can challenge him again. You cannot leave the city until you beat him and earn the Boulder Badge. If you accidentally got disconnected, it will count a as a loss and you must wait. This applies to most of the Gym Leaders.
A Pokémon is asleep/is fully paralyzed but it is still attacking! Why does this happen?
Currently, there is a bug with sleep and paralysis. If the pokémon that was put to sleep/was paralyzed is faster than its opponent it still attacks as it normally would. Status effects do not work properly, the same way most attacks do not work properly. However, poison and burn are still somewhat effective in battles but still inflicts damage whenever you use Potions/PokeBalls or (in some cases) when you switch. Poison does not drain HP from your Pokemon while you are in the Overworld.
What is a Shiny Pokemon? How do I make it Shiny?
A Shiny Pokemon is a Pokemon with a different color. They are not glitches, but rather some different appearances for Pokemon. The term "Shiny" came from the glittering animation seen in Pokemon games, hence the nickname. For example, an ordinary Oddish will have a blue body with green leaves. A Shiny Oddish will have a yellow-green body with green leaves, and Shinies will be marked with a [S] in its name ([S] Oddish for example). In PWO, Shinies can be found anywhere but they are at least 8 times more rare than a Horribly Rare Pokemon. The encounter rate of finding one is estimated to be 1/8080 (1/2020 for members), though it was 1/8192 in Handheld games. PWO Shinies are known to have a 20% Stat Buff in all stats, therefore making them much sought after and coveted by more ambitious players. The most common Shiny used is Gyarados, feared for its super-charged Hyper Beam. Was this Stats buff a glitch or intended? Either way, there are many players who favor this buff as well many who oppose it. By subscribing to a Membership in Playerdex (http://playerdex.com), you will be 300% more likely to see a Shiny.
How do I run PWO from a Mac?
If we assume you're not running Windows on your Mac and what you need to play it is Windows then this is what you do:
Either you can use the apple product Bootcamp which makes you play Windows through your Mac and start up Windows from the first stage that you start up your computer.
The second option is to use a system simulator like Parallels Desktop, which lets you run Windows in a separate screen to the operative system you're using right now. This however lose some performance speed, but not noticable in PWO.
I Can't Login, Why Can't I Login?
Every Once in a while the server will be Full (600/600). When this Happens the server status will say
'Diamond: Too Many Req.' This basically means the server is getting to many login requests. Usually if you close PWO
and try to login it will work, otherwise wait 5-10 Minutes, then try to log in. If this is Not the Case then the server is probabally Down, Don't go complaining to staff, as they would already know. Try to find somthing to occupy yourself - Maybe read a few of our lovely articles and guides on Rare Pokemon, Easter Eggs and the Safari Zone.
