How do you get a Pokémon on your Pokédex:
1) You battle against it in the wild
2) The Pokémon evolves into another form - in that case the newly evolved Pokémon (not the previous one) shows up on your Pokédex
3) You battle against it while fighting an NPC
4) You battle against it in a Player vs Player battle
5) You trade a Pokémon for it
6) You buy it with a donation
7) You buy it in the Auction House

The easiest methods are 1-3; however, some Pokémon are Uncatchable and no NPC has them.  In that case, the best way to encounter them is method #4.  Here is help in figuring out which method you probably need to use to get a Pokémon to show up in your Pokédex.

Why did I stop here listing pokemon?  This is everything up to g4 pokemon.  G4 pokemon aren't coded for the game yet, so I'm stopping here, waiting for new npcs and gym leaders to show up with pokemon.
