PvP Battles
Player vs. Player
PvP, short for "Player versus Player", is a type of battle where you test your skills against another human being. In short, to activate a PvP match with another player, type /battle <playername>. If you want to battle someone called 12345, then type /battle 12345. You may also right-click someone next to you and select Battle OR you may right-click someone's username on the chat and select Battle. The other player must click Yes on the battle request or type /accept <your name> to begin the battle. Do NOT send multiple battle requests to the same player! Doing so may get you reported. If this happens to you, please take a screenshot of it and report it to the forums in the Hidden Section of the Community Watch area. If you win the match, you will earn 5% (or 1/20) of your opponent's total Reputation and have a Win added to your statistics. If you lose, you will only sustain a Loss in your statistics and you will be moved to your last Pokémon Center. You cannot lose Reputation, remember that. You cannot earn Poké Dollars or Experience Points in PvP.
PvP
Etiquette
- First, send a Private Message to the person. You
currently cannot send a PM while in battle! Do not blindly challenge everyone in your area, or
someone you heard over chat, to a battle. If you want to battle someone,
ask them for their levels (preferably using a PM) before you do so. If
they are reluctant to answer or do not answer at all, they might be trying
to lure you into a fight with their higher-leveled Pokémon. If they give
you only a level range, or one or two levels, they could be hiding a more
powerful Pokémon in their team. If you are paranoid and just can't seem to
trust that person, try searching his/her name on the Playerdex or use myPWO.info's
Trainer Card Spy to take a look at the Trainer Card. If they
have hidden it, you are not obliged to battle them. It is your decision.
If the person has lied about levels, please take a screenshot of it and
report it to the forums in the Hidden Section of the Community
Watch area.
But by no means, if you happen to blindly challenge a stronger player and that player accept and obviously has the means to defeat you, please do not turn off your game. It's your fault that you challenged a stronger player without knowing it or asking. Disconnecting is just rude and it dupes the opponent out of their rightful win. It's not their responsibility to make sure you're not ignorant or careless. - This is basically tip #1 with the roles reversed.
Should someone challenge you, it is your duty to ask them about their
levels or look up their trainer card if they seem reluctant to answer. If
you're uncomfortable, you're not obliged to accept the battle. If you are
obviously going to be beaten, do not disconnect. Accept your loss; ignorance
is no excuse. If the player has lied about levels, you may screenshot
it and report it to the forums under Hidden
Section of the Community Watch area.
- If you or your opponent has specific rules for the
battle, please follow them. For example, if the player asks for "No
SHINIEs", then you are expected to follow those rules as well as
he/she should. If he/she breaks the rule(s), screenshot it and report it
to the forums under Hidden Section of the
Community Watch area. Likewise, it is the same for vise versa. In
a tournament hosted by an ordinary player, the host(s) of the tournament
should be responsible for taking action on any cheats occurring (such as
disqualification). Please be polite to your opponent and do not insult or
jeer at him/her. If this happens, you may get reported.
- Disconnecting seems to be fairly easy to accomplish and
it should be avoided. In most of the community, I have seen that people
absolutely hate it. If you have any manners at all, there are only certain
circumstances that are acceptable in order to disconnect:
·
When your opponent has blatantly
lied to you about levels and rules. If you agreed upon a set of terms before
the battle and you discover that your opponent has obviously lured you into a
one-sided fight, then it is obviously okay for you to disconnect and avoid an
unfair loss. You may screenshot it and report it to the forums
under Hidden Section of the Community Watch area in order to help
discourage this type of behavior.
·
If the game, for some reason or
another, seems not to respond to your fight, you should definitely wait a good
amount of time before deciding that the battle is frozen, and even then, ask
the opponent if they agree that the battle is frozen and want to disconnect.
Sometimes, chat and private messaging will work while the battle will not.
Again, be sure to discuss it with your opponent before doing so.
