The security guard only allows you to enter inside if you had defeated the Gym Leader of Viridian City and earned the Earth Badge.


There is also now a bike shop in Goldenrod City!

You are still required to have the Earth Badge to enter inside the bike shop.

How to use?
To use the Bicycle, you need the Earth Badge.
If you own it, just click on the Bike in your inventory to use it.
However, you cannnot use it on all maps but on most.

Why is it so expensive?
It was made as a "sinkhole", which is a way of removing excess money from the game.  It is also a status symbol for wealthy players.

GLITCH: Bikes in the Safari Zone?

Have you ever seen people riding bikes in the Safari Zone but when you try to use it nothing happens? When you use a bike in the Safari Zone everyone (except you) sees you on a Bike. You will still move at normal speed though.
