What is a Mapper?
To all who reads this, thank you for your interest in the Mappers group. A Mapper is a player who creates the land you walk on in PWO; that includes all the cities, routes, caves, seas, etc. This is an artist position, but not one of power, thus you will not have any special powers in the game. The Mappers, working together with the GMs, dedicate some of their time to bring more places to the game, expanding the world of PWO! Imagine ordinary players walking on the maps you have made with your own imagination, that feeling of accomplishment... does it feel exhilarating? There is nothing like showing off artwork publicly by paving beautiful worlds for the people to enjoy!
Part of the job description is to participate in making/modeling the regions from the Handheld games plus any other region that is related to the Pokémon franchise. The job will not go to the ill-creative, the weak-hearts, and the lazy. You must display a mastery in mapping and have nice creativity in order to be offered a spot in the group.
How To Become An Official PWO Mapper?
Unlike other games, PWO has evolved into having a bit of a different approach to choosing its Mappers, there is no definite step by step process to become one. I like to think that we have this system in place so that the Mappers that we do end up choosing are dedicated to the team and PWO, and are skilled at mapping. In other words, they are creative, make maps with minimal errors and have the ability to work in a team, help others and provide constructive criticism.
There are some recommendations that I would like to give you, that will help you on the way to becoming part of PWO's Mapping Team. Keep in mind though, that it is up to you to show dedication to learning about mapping that will earn you your place in PWO's Mapping Team.
Be creative.
Start your own topic to showcase your custom maps in the Mapping Academy and Showcase forum. Imagination is the skill I consider most important in Mappers.
Learn from your mistakes.
Show us that you can take criticism and improve your Mapping skill, because if you can't improve and think you are already perfect we don't want you. Mapping is a dynamic thing, constantly changing and nobody is ever perfect at it, though some do get very good. Take a look at the Mapping Help forum, there is a topic full of guide made by members of the Mapping Team and members of the forum alike. This topic is to help you understand how the maps in the original Pokemon games were made, and how to make your maps look better and bug free based off the original games.
Help others.
There is no "I" in "Team". Once you start your own topic to showcase your maps, you will notice that members of the Mapping Team and other aspiring Mappers will comment on your maps, to give you feedback on map design and point out your errors to you. Do the same for other people! Be a critic, be helpful, give guidance, but keep everything within the Forum Rules. Show us that you can work in a team.
Be involved.
Whether you are being active by critiquing other peoples maps, making accurate guides for the Mapping Guides topic, or taking part in the Mapping Academy. Show us that you are actually interesting in Mapping, and that you don't just want to be on the team for the pretty colour and the status.
All in all, be a proactive member of PWO's mapping community, and you will see the rewards for your efforts. Remember that the Mapping Team is always recruiting.
What Do I Need To Make Maps?
You need the Map Editor, the tool used to make maps for PWO! This is the ONLY tool you can use to make maps for this game, remember that!

But don't worry, these will help you a lot on Mapping. If requested, I can provide the download link for the Tutorial Map here.
