RED Day 2013

Thursday, May 9, 2013

We are in the planning stages for the 2013 Red Day, during which we will do repairs, maintenance work, enjoy two robust field days, fashion shows and  lunches with the staff and students at two elementary schools (William Paca Elementary School and Dr. Bernard Harris Elementary School).

Working with these two schools for the second year in a row will allow us to positively impact over

1,100 children and their families!!!

Help us make a difference.  Help us give the greatest gift:

HOPE.

Open Door Baltimore (ODB) is a not-for-profit organization that works to empower individuals and families in the poorest neighborhoods of East Baltimore.  ODB provides, food, clothing, counseling, employment training and assistance, as well as many other services by working with many other not-for-profit services that are also operating in East Baltimore. RED Day’s activities will involve effort at several different locations in the vicinity of Open Door Headquarters.

GENERAL OVERVIEW:

600 volunteers will be signed up to work in volunteer positions for the day.

In addition to the activities of May 9, 2013, our faith has led us to commit to several important donation and fund-raising drives culminating in the May 9 event.  We will need donations of Food (we are looking for lunches to be donated to the students by a local restaurant), School Supplies, School Equipment, Service Equipment, Garden & Construction Materials, etc…

PLANNED APPROACH:

From December 2012 through May 9, 2013, there will be two planning meetings per month.  The first meeting will be comprised of the leaders of each area of RED Day planning.  The second meeting will include the leaders AND their respective committees.  The leaders are already in place, so we are actively looking for committee members.

We recognize that each person who volunteers his/her time has a life and business to run having the leadership meetings before the All Hands On Deck meetings will help us to stay on point, concise and focused so that we make the best use of our time.
